Isolated Showers Tomorrow, Then Dry

| April 29, 2015 @ 3:40 pm

RADAR CHECK: A few isolated showers linger over parts of East Alabama this afternoon, but some places are enjoying some sunshine through a broken cloud field.

Temperatures are well below average for late April… Birmingham’s average high today (April 29) is 77, but today temperatures are only in the mid 60s.

We also note a cold air funnel was observed today atop Lookout Mountain near Dogtown, in DeKalb County…

A cold air funnel is a weak circulation in a cool, stable airmass, usually associated with a cold core upper low or upper trough (like the one passing over Alabama today). These are generally harmless.

TOMORROW: Cold air aloft persists, and we will need to maintain the chance of widely scattered afternoon showers. Otherwise, the day tomorrow will be windy with a mix of sun and clouds and a high in the mid 70s. The chance of any one spot getting wet across North Alabama is about one in five.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: We are still promising picture perfect spring weather, with sunny days, fair nights, and a slow warming trend. Expect a high in the mid 70s Saturday, and a good chance we reach 80 degrees Sunday afternoon. Perfect weather for race weekend at Talladega.

NEXT WEEK: A ridge is over the eastern third of the nation, and our weather is looking generally warm and dry for much of the week with highs in the low to mid 80s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
