Another Great May Day

Not quite as cool to start the day this morning as we look for the second part of a great May weekend for Central Alabama. With lots of sunshine today we should see highs climb into the lower 80s. As an upper ridge builds into the eastern US, look for temperatures to warm into the 80s for highs during the week ahead with some spots possibly near 90 toward the end of the week.

If you are headed to the big race at Talladega, be sure to take the sunscreen. Plenty of sunshine with a warm afternoon as the highs top out in the lower 80s.

Like yesterday, the QPF forecast continued to show a big empty spot with no rain expected in Central Alabama until the end of the week ahead. The upper air pattern features a substantial ridge for the Southeast US with a closed low and deep trough over the western US. A weaker trough also develops to our east, keeping the Southeast US between systems for much of the week ahead. With the upper ridge in place, should see temperatures warm well into the 80s for highs during the week ahead.

The ridge begins to break down as we head into next weekend and out into voodoo country. But even then, moisture remains primarily west of Central Alabama, so only isolated showers could enter the forecast.

Beach weather continues to look great with sunny days, fair nights for the next week. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the upper 70s for the next five days. Sea water temperatures are in the low to mid 70s.

Looking out into voodoo country, the upper ridge holds for us as the closed low over the western states finally advances eastward around the 12th of May. This is likely to be the focus for a cold front to bring showers to the southeastern US.
