Lower Humidity Levels Tomorrow

| May 12, 2015 @ 3:36 pm

RADAR CHECK: Pretty quiet at mid-afternoon; hardly anything on radar across the great state of Alabama, and we are seeing some sun through the clouds in most places.

Drier air will continue to filter into the northern half of the state tonight, and we expect dry weather over the next 36 hours. We drop down into the mid 50s early tomorrow, and expect a high in the low 80s tomorrow afternoon with a good supply of sunshine and lower humidity levels. Dewpoints will be down in the 40s tomorrow; we won’t have many more days like that as the long, hot summer is so close.

THURSDAY: Moisture begins to return; we start the day with morning sunshine, and we will mention the chance of a few scattered showers and storms by afternoon. The 12Z model runs have trended a little drier, and a decent part of the day should be dry. Temperatures will rise into the mid 80s Thursday afternoon.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Showers and storms will become more numerous Friday as precipitable water values continue to rise. No “all day” rain, but it could rain at any time, and a few thunderstorms could be involved. We will hold in the 70s all day Friday due to clouds and showers.

Not much change for Saturday and Sunday; the sky will be generally cloudy both days with a few passing showers and storms likely. Highs will be in the low 80s. On the positive side, there will be some decent breaks in the rain, we don’t expect any severe weather, and the sun could peek out at times.

We do note another significant severe weather event is possible Saturday across the Southern Plains…

NEXT WEEK: The upper ridge will continue to deflect the main wave energy well to the north of Alabama, but we do stay in a moist airmass, so there will be some risk of scattered showers and storms each day for the first half of the week with highs in the 80s. Looks like temperatures here will stay above average for the Deep South through the end of the month as the ridge holds.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Only widely scattered shower or storms on the coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through Thursday with highs close to 80 on the immediate coast; about 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day. Then, Friday through Sunday, 4 to 6 hours of sunshine daily with scattered showers and storms becoming a little more numerous. For those headed to the Hangout Music Festival… you will have to dodge raindrops from time to time, but the sun will also be out occasionally, and the weekend certainly won’t be a total “wash out”. The sea water temperature this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is up to 81 degrees.
