A Long Way From Home

| May 15, 2015 @ 6:32 pm

UPDATE JUST AFTER 7
Power is reported out in the Brook Highland shopping area and in Bessemer on 9th avenue between 16th and 19th street. But don’t worry, the storms are not severe. At 7:10, they are lined up from west to east from Gorgas to downtown Birmingham to Pell City.

A line of heavy showers with some lightning is pushing into the southern part of the Birmingham Metro at this hour.

They will bring brief heavy rain, gusty winds and some lightning as they move across parts of Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Jefferson, Shelby and Talladega Counties over the next hour.

The storms have weakened over the past couple hours as they have moved north from the Gulf Coast. They apparently started out this morning as the seabreeze front, from that refreshing flow off air off the Gulf that forms as the land heats during the day. It is a long way from home tonight, not an unusual occurrence in Alabama.
