Only Widely Scattered Showers Later Today

| May 19, 2015 @ 6:12 am

NOT MUCH RAIN: The chance of any one spot seeing a shower later today is only about one in five… otherwise we expect a partly sunny sky today with a high in the mid 80s. The average high for May 19 is 82 (for Birmingham).

REST OF THE WEEK: Looks generally dry and warm, with partly to mostly sunny days and fair nights. The only possible exception is tomorrow night, when the NAM brings a batch of showers and storms through here in the 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. time frame…

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Saturday continue to look warm and dry with a high between 85 and 88 degrees; then we will bring back the risk of scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and storms Sunday and Monday with a mix of sun and clouds both days. This, of course, is a standard part of a summer forecast in Alabama, and is not a “washout” situation. Highs will remain mostly in the mid 80s into early next week.

NEXT WEEK: Early summer weather looks likely with an upper ridge holding over Florida, with just a few widely scattered showers or storms around each afternoon; no sign of any big, organized rain event, and no risk of any severe weather problems. Highs will remain in the mid to upper 80s.

SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: Big week for college baseball at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium; the event runs today through Sunday, and most days will be warm and dry with highs in the mid 80s. A brief afternoon shower is possible today, and also on Sunday, but any delays should be brief if one pops up near the stadium.

AT THE BEACH: About 8 to 10 hours of sunshine each day on the coast from Panama City west to Gulf Shores through the holiday weekend with only widely scattered showers or thunderstorms. Highs on the immediate coast will remain in the low 80s, with mid to upper 80s inland. The sea water temperature early this morning at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 80 degrees.
