Turning Cooler Tomorrow

| May 20, 2015 @ 1:08 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; will be at our son’s high school graduation**

COLD FRONT APPROACHING: Looks like a few passing showers and storms are a good possibility through tonight as a cold front moves into Alabama; SPC maintains a “marginal” severe weather threat for a decent part of the state. The main threats will come from gusty winds and small hail as the storms move through this evening.

Showers and storms will end late tonight as the front pushes south.

TOMORROW/FRIDAY: These two days look delightful as cool, dry continental air covers much of our state. Sunny pleasant days, clear cool nights. Tomorrow’s high will be only in the low to mid 70s, and by early Friday morning we expect a low in the 48-52 degree range, well below average for late May in Alabama.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: Saturday and Sunday are looking warm and dry with highs in the low to mid 80s; I think we can drop that small risk of a shower Sunday afternoon. Moisture levels will rise a bit by Memorial Day, and a few widely scattered showers or storms are possible Monday afternoon with a high in the mid 80s. All in all a very nice weekend to open up the summer season (at least unofficially).

SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: A good chance of a shower or storm passing through tonight, but everything looks fine tomorrow through Sunday with mostly sunny days and fair nights. Highs in Hoover will be in the 70s tomorrow and Friday, and back in the 80s over the weekend.

AT THE BEACH: About 8 to 10 hours of sunshine each day through Memorial Day along the beautiful stretch from Panama City west to Gulf Shores with just a few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the low 80s, with mid 80s inland. Sea water temperatures are generally in the low 80s.

WEATHER BRAINS: Don’t forget you can listen to our weekly 90 minute netcast anytime on the web, or on iTunes. This is the show all about weather featuring many familiar voices, including our meteorologists here at ABC 33/40.
