Almost Like A Fall Day

| May 21, 2015 @ 3:20 pm

MORE LIKE OCTOBER: The average high for Birmingham on May 21 is 82 degrees; today the 3:00 temperature at Birmingham-Shuttlesworth Airport is only 67 with a north wind gusting to 22 mph at times. To the north, Nashville is in the mid 50s.

Pesky clouds have lingered today over the northern half of the state, keeping temperatures down…

We do note upper 80s over South Alabama, where it feels more like late May.

TOMORROW: The clouds will finally move out this evening, and with a clear sky and dry air, we expect many locations will see a low in the 40s early tomorrow. Then, during the day, the sky will be mostly sunny with a high in the mid to upper 70s.

MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND: We trend warmer; look for highs back in the mid 80s Saturday and Sunday with a partly to mostly sunny sky both days. Then, on Monday, moisture levels will rise, and we will bring in the risk of “scattered, mostly afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms”.

Warm, humid weather will continue through the week with partly sunny days, and the risk of a shower or storm in a few spots on a daily basis. Highs remain in the 80s.

SEC BASEBALL TOURNAMENT: No rain through Sunday; sunny days and fair nights at the Hoover Metropolitan Stadium. Highs in the mid 70s tomorrow, then back in the 80s Saturday and Sunday. It will be cool tonight with temperatures falling into the 50s… a light jacket or sweater will be in order.

BEACH FORECAST: Mostly sunny days and fair nights tomorrow through Sunday with only a slight risk of a shower each day from Panama City west to Gulf Shores. Next week looks very routine for late May with about 7 to 9 hours of sun each day along with the risk of widely scattered showers and thunderstorms. Highs on the immediate coast will be mostly in the low to mid 80s, the sea water temperature early this afternoon at the Dauphin Island Sea Lab is 85 degrees.
