Showers Thin Out This Weekend

| June 11, 2015 @ 3:39 pm

RADAR CHECK: As expected, we have scattered showers and thunderstorms across Alabama this afternoon; like recent days, the storms are slow moving, and heavier ones are producing some small hail and very frequent lightning.

These showers and storms will settle down later tonight after the sun goes down.

TOMORROW: A weak upper low over the region will keep the weather unchanged, with scattered showers and thunderstorms, especially tomorrow afternoon. Otherwise, expect a mix of sun and clouds and a high in the mid 80s.

THE WEEKEND: Heat levels begin to rise, and showers begin to thin out as an upper high begins to build across the Southeast U.S. Partly sunny days, fair nights, and just a few widely scattered afternoon showers or storms Saturday and Sunday with a high in the low 90s.

NEXT WEEK: The heat cranks up as the upper ridge grows stronger. Sure looks like we will be up in the mid 90s Monday through Wednesday with only a small risk of any one spot seeing a cooling afternoon shower. The ridge erodes a bit late in the week, which could open the door for an increase in the number of showers and storms by Thursday or Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected through next week.

AT THE BEACH: About 4 to 6 hours of sun tomorrow along the Central Gulf Coast with scattered showers and thunderstorms, then 7 to 9 hours of sunshine over the weekend and most of next week with showers and storms becoming fewer in number. Highs on the immediate coast will hold in the mid 80s, with 87 to 90 degrees likely inland. Sea water temperatures are in the low to mid 80s.

FORT MORGAN WATERSPOUT: One formed this morning just off Fort Morgan… photo below was taken by Josh Evans.
