LATE REPORT
Talladega County has just been added to the severe thunderstorm watch. The severe storm near Bremen will likely get into Talladega County as well.

ORIGINAL POST
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for portions of East Central Alabama and much of Georgia. It is valid until 9 p.m.

Alabama counties include: Barbour, Bullock, Calhoun, Chambers, Cherokee, Clay, Cleburne, Coosa, Elmore, Lee, Macon, Montgomery, Pike, Randolph, Russell and Tallapoosa.

Strong to severe thunderstorms are erupting over Georgia in a very unstable airmass this afternoon. One severe thunderstorm is near Smyrna northwest of Atlanta and another near Dacula. Another strong storm is around Buchanan, north of Bremen, just over the border the Alabama’s Fruithurst.

These storms are expected to drift southwestward. Some will get into Alabama.

Damaging winds is the main threat. Is it just too hot for large hot to reach the ground generally this time of year. There could be some small hail. Of course, all thunderstorms carry the threat of deadly lightning. Torrential rains will accompany them as well.
