The National Weather Service in Huntsville has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Cullman County. There is likely hail with the storms moving into Cullman County.

Storms have rapidly weakened as they passed east of Birmingham. There are reports of trees down in Vestavia, Homewood, and Mountain Brook.

Despite the fact that activity is weakened, it is expected to intensify later this morning as it moves into Georgia. As we get heating during the day, the atmosphere will destabilize and a severe thunderstorm watch may be posted later into Georgia.

There are still storms over Northern Jefferson County around Fultondale, Tarrant, and Centerpoint and over Northeast Shelby County around Harpersville.

Other storms are in South-Central Alabama over Bibb, Chilton, Perry, Dallas, Marengo, and Sumter Counties.

Storms are strongest from Meridian to Butler and Southwest of Clanton. Clanton area will receive heavy rain and lightning over the next thirty minutes.

Additional showers and storms moving out of Northeast Mississippi are weakening, but could bring lightning and thunder to places like Hamilton and Vernon.

A few additional storms and showers will form this afternoon across the area, but they should not be as widespread as this morning.
