The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch in effect until 6:00 p.m. for portions of Northern Alabama, Northern Georgia, extreme Western North Carolina and Middle/East Tennessee. This Severe Thunderstorm Watch includes the following counties in Alabama: Dekalb, Lawrence, Marshall, Jackson, Limestone, Morgan, Lauderdale, and Madison.

Thunderstorms over Tennessee associated with an upper level disturbance will move across the TN valley area over the next few hours. They are expected to stay north of US 278. Damaging winds will be the main threat. There is also a possibility of isolated hail events.

Additional thunderstorms and showers will form to the south this afternoon. Some of those could be severe. We will keep an eye on this as it develops, and we will keep you posted.
