Storms Into North Alabama

| July 14, 2015 @ 6:14 pm

Our intense line of showers and storms is into North Alabama at this hour and is pushing south and southeast at about 35-40 mph.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are in effect for northeastern Mississippi, including Fulton and Tupelo. The NWS Huntsville has gone with a Significant Weather Alert instead of a warning for counties like Colbert, Lauderdale, Franklin and Lawrence. The activity over northern Mississippi is associated with an MCS that has produced numerous reports of wind damage including a 65 mph wind gust near Memphis.

These storms will reach Marion County a little after 7 p.m.

Severe thunderstorm warnings have been issued for the Huntsville and Decatur areas.

Mesoscale modeling indicates that the storms will weaken as they cross US-278 and enter North Central Alabama, but the activity enter northwestern Alabama may be able to hold together better as is pushes southeastward. It looks like everything will reach the I-20 corridor around 9 p.m. Here is the latest HRRR depiction of the line’s progress:

Damaging winds will be the threat.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch continues for North and North Central Alabama until 10 p.m.
