Hot, Hot, Hot

Brian Peters is out this weekend, so I will be sitting in with my first attempt ever at a Weather Xtreme video. Please be kind, it’s harder than James and Brian make it look!

The National Weather Service Hazard Advisory Map looks like someone spilled orange paint on it this morning, with Heat Advisories stretching from Madison, Wisconsin to Gulfport, Mississippi and back to Oklahoma City. Much of Alabama is included in that lot.

A big ridge of high pressure sits over the Deep South, centered near Alexandria, Louisiana. An unusual trough extends from central Canada back to San Francisco. The City by the Bay is boasting a high of 68F today! We would gladly trade with them here in Alabama. Highs here today will be in the upper 90s. The radar will most likely look like it has a rash of measles by this afternoon, but don’t count on getting any relief. The chance of rain at any location today will be only about 10 percent.

SUNDAY, MONDAY: In a couple of words, hot/dry. Highs will again be in the upper 90s with a few 100F readings thrown in for good measure. Showers and storms will be isolated at best.

TUESDAY AND BEYOND: The GFS is bullish on the idea that an upper level trough will develop over the Northeast U.S. and allow a cool front to sink into the Southeast. Hooking into this idea, the model prints out around three quarters of an inch of rain during the week. The European is not as bullish as only forecasts around two tenths of an inch of rain through Friday.

WEEKEND SNEAK PEEK: The GFS continues with the wet trend into the weekend. I am skeptical that it will be a washout however. Look for scattered showers and storms with highs in the middle 90s. Lows will be in the lower and middle 70s. Don’t look now, but the Euro is printing out more highs around 100F for Sunday and Monday.

BEACHCAST:  Beautiful weather along the coast this weekend with fairly typical fare the rest of the week.  Click here to open Central Alabama’s most detailed forecast for the beautiful beaches of Alabama and Northwest Florida, brought to you by Gulf Shores Plantation.

The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.

TROPICS: We continue to track a tropical wave about 600 miles east of the Lesser Antilles this morning. Conditions are slightly favorable for development over the next 24-36 hours, but then will become hostile as the system approaches the eastern Caribbean.

WEATHERBRAINS: Great show this week with Geoff Fox, a TV Meteorologist from Palm Springs, California, who actually works remotely! As in remotely from his home in Irvine, California. Check out the weekly netcast that’s all about weather at WeatherBrains.com. Listen live on Monday nights at live.bigbrainsmedia.com. Or subscribe to the audio version on iTunes.

Look for the next Weather Xtreme video here tomorrow morning… enjoy the weekend!
