RADAR CHECK: Strong thunderstorms with frequent lighting, gusty winds, and heavy rain are moving eastward across North/Central Alabama this afternoon…

Most of these will die down this evening, although we can’t rule out a storm late tonight thanks to a surface boundary north of the state.

TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: Our weather will be rather unsettled on these three days as the upper ridge weakens, the air aloft becomes colder, and the atmosphere will be more unstable. While the sun will be out at times, we expect scattered to numerous showers and storms each day, with a high around 90 degrees. Some spots might have a day when they stay in the 80s.

While the best chance of showers and storms will come during the afternoon and evening hours, we can’t totally rule out a late night or morning thunderstorm in this pattern. SPC maintains a “marginal” severe weather risk for much of the state tomorrow; we might have a wet microburst or two (local areas of winds strong enough to knock down trees and power lines) with the heavier thunderstorms.

THE WEEKEND: The upper ridge begins to rebuild, so the weather will be a bit hotter Saturday and Sunday with showers and storms becoming more widely scattered. Partly sunny both days with a high in the mid 90s. Best chance of a passing storm will come during the afternoon and evening hours.

And, typical summer weather will continue into early next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

AT THE BEACH: About 7 to 9 hours of sunshine daily from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores through the weekend, with a passing storm from time to time. Highs on the immediate coast will be in the upper 80s, with mid 90s inland. Sea water temperatures remain mostly in the mid 80s.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains very quiet; no tropical storm formation this week.
