1 System – Gobs of Issuances
Boy, do I have a rant for the next Weather Brains episode – provided Fay doesn’t interfere with it.
I’ve seen lots of changes in the weather business, many of them quite good. But when I was checking the NWS site at Tallahassee this morning, I could not help but be struck with all of the various products put out by the NWS. The graphic below is a screen capture of the TAE web site. I’m not coming down on one office, but I am coming down on the NWS as a whole for too many products. And some products have two names, Flood Watch and Flash Flood Watch for one – and that is another rant.
Now back to our regular coverage of Fay and Central Alabama weather.

I agree….Many of these products could be condensed. Ie. TS Wind Warning and TS Warning…that should have the same meaning on land as it does over water… the TS Wind Wind Watch should just be a TS Watch,it cant be TS w/o the winds so if there’s a possibility TS conditions it should simply be a TS watch. once again w/no difference whether its over land or over water.Lake Wind Advisory and Wind Advisory (whaa?)
Its pretty much a whole lot of statements to say your gonna get a whole bunch of rain, stay inside and read a book.

Brian, since you have a real job and volunteer your tax money, thanks for helping us pay for all that super and detailed info. I wonder how many NOAA “workers” are there to help keep us “informed”. I also noticed on the Hidi Channel this morning that the Feds have a national traffic conditions information coordinator. I bet they have a staff of at least 100 nationwide … maybe more … maybe many many more, just for that. Who knows!!

I agree. This is my area WFO and I am friends with several of the guys there. I feel sorry for them as these products can be time consuming to work up and get out. Add a storm to the mix and well you get the picture above..Dont even get me started on HGTV/TWC as they are becoming irrelevant as time passes..

I remember seeing some kind of an alert for a county in South Carolina last week on NWS about their 911 system being down and to call the fire dept instead for emergencies. What does that have to do with weather?
