Rain Chances On The Increase

| September 7, 2015 @ 3:19 pm

**Just one Weather Xtreme video today as we are on holiday schedule… back to “two a day” tomorrow**

RADAR CHECK: As expected, showers are very isolated across Alabama this afternoon… the ones that have popped up are moving westward, and will fizzle out once the sun goes down.

REST OF THE WEEK: Deeper moisture will move into Alabama tomorrow from the south and east, and settle in for the rest of the week, meaning scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms on a daily basis through Friday. The best chance of showers and storms will come during the afternoon and evening hours, but we can’t rule out a few late night or morning showers as well along the way.

On the positive side, there will be some good breaks in the rain, and the sun will be out at times. And, heat levels won’t be bad, with highs generally in the low to mid 80s. We have to wonder if we have seen our last 90 degree high of the year (Tuscaloosa did reach 90 this afternoon)…

THE WEEKEND: A cold front will begin to enter far North Alabama Saturday; we will need to keep a decent chance of showers and storms during the day, but by Sunday the deeper moisture will shift down into South Alabama, and we will be considerably drier. Highs hold in the 80s both days.

I expect us to reach the cool 50s by Monday and Tuesday morning of next week.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama hosts Middle Tennessee State at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday afternoon; kickoff is at 3:00. I would take rain gear since there is the chance of a few showers, and maybe even a thunderstorm during the game. Temperatures will fall from near 83 at kickoff into the upper 70s by the final whistle.

Auburn plays their first game of the season at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday against Jacksonville State; kickoff is at 11:00. The sky will be mostly cloudy with a chance of showers; temperatures will hover in the low 80s during the game.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Grace is beginning to weaken in the Central Atlantic as it moves to the west; a good chance it dissipates well before reaching the Leeward Islands. A weak low over the Northeast Gulf of Mexico is not expected to develop.

AT THE BEACH: One thing is for sure… crowds will be much lighter now that the Labor Day holiday weekend is behind us. About 3 to 5 hours of sunshine each day through Friday, with a few passing thunderstorms likely. Highs in the mid to upper 80s, sea water temperatures in the low to mid 80s.
