SPC has introduced a “marginal risk” of severe storms over North Alabama this evening for this activity, the prime risk is strong straight line winds. And, of course, lightning will be big issue as well with high school football games across the area tonight.

THE WEEKEND: Looks like showers will end across the northern half of Alabama during the pre-dawn hours tomorrow, and the day will be partly to mostly sunny and noticeably cooler, with a high in the mid 70s. We drop into the 50-55 degree range early Sunday, and during the day Sunday we project maximum available sunshine and low humidity with a high in the mid to upper 70s. All in all a delightful weekend.

NEXT WEEK: The GFS continues to trend drier for the latter half of the week, and it now looks like we can forecast rain-free weather Monday through Friday, with highs in the 80s. Monday morning will be very cool, with lows in the 40s across the cooler pockets across North Alabama. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Unfortunately showers and thunderstorms are a good possibility tonight for the high school games, especially north of Birmingham. South of I-20, there is a chance the games will be completed before the thunderstorms arrive. Temperatures will be in the 70s; expect some lightning delays.

Alabama hosts Middle Tennessee State at Bryant-Denny Stadium tomorrow afternoon; kickoff is at 3:00. The sky will be partly to mostly sunny during the game, with temperatures falling from the upper 70s at kickoff, into the upper 60s by the final whistle along with a north breeze of 10-20 mph.

Auburn plays their first home game of the season at Jordan-Hare Stadium tomorrow against Jacksonville State; kickoff is at 11:00. The good news is that models are trending drier, and it sure looks like most of the showers will be over by game time. We will just mention a slight risk of a stray shower during the first quarter, otherwise the sky becomes partly to mostly sunny, with temperatures in the 75-78 degree range during the game.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Henri in the North Atlantic will become post-tropical this weekend, and a series of other waves across the Atlantic show no signs of organization for now. The wave over the far eastern Atlantic has come chance of slow development in coming days as it moves west/northwest.

AT THE BEACH: About 5 to 7 hours of sunshine tomorrow from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores with a passing shower or storm likely; then mostly sunny weather Sunday through Tuesday. Highs hold in the 80s… See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals.
