Dry Days With A Warming Trend

| September 15, 2015 @ 6:11 am

ANOTHER REFRESHING MORNING: Most communities are in the 50s early this morning with a clear sky; Vic Bell up at Black Creek (just northeast of Gadsden) reports 48… Russellville is also at 48 (Franklin County). Today will be another sun filled day, with a high in the 81-84 degree range this afternoon.

REST OF THE WEEK: Dry weather continues with a warming trend. Mostly sunny days, fair nights. The high tomorrow and Thursday will be in the mid 80s, with upper 80s Friday. No lightning or rain issues for high school football games this week for a change.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: The upper ridge will hold, meaning mostly dry conditions Saturday and Sunday. We will probably need to mention a chance of widely scattered showers Sunday afternoon near the Tennessee border due to a weak surface front, but the rest of the state will be rain-free. Temperatures will be above average, with highs in the upper 80s in most spots.

NEXT WEEK: We will bring in some risk of scattered showers or thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday as the upper ridge weakens a bit, and the surface front to the north drifts southward. For now it doesn’t look like a big rain event; see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The weather will be clear for the Alabama/Ole Miss game Saturday night in Tuscaloosa with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees (8:15p CT), falling through the 70s during the game. Auburn travels to Baton Rouge to play LSU Saturday… kickoff is at 2:30. It will feel more like summer with 90 degrees at kickoff with a mostly sunny sky.

TROPICS: A weak disturbance over the Southwest Gulf of Mexico should drift into Mexico today; there are two waves in the deep tropical Atlantic with some potential for slow development, but those are far from the U.S. and should not bother us.

AT THE BEACH: About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine daily through the weekend from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores, with a few scattered showers and storms possible. Highs will be in the mid to upper 80s, with sea water temperatures in the low 80s.
