Dry Through The Weekend; Warmer

| September 15, 2015 @ 3:27 pm

AT MID-AFTERNOON: The sky is partly sunny, and temperatures are generally in the low 80s across the great state of Alabama this afternoon. Some high altitude moisture has moved up into the state from the Gulf, but the low levels are still very dry, and there is no rain on radar.

REST OF THE WEEK: Dry weather will continue through Friday with a slow warming trend; partly to mostly sunny days and fair nights. We will reach the mid 80s tomorrow and Thursday, with upper 80s Friday. No rain or storm issues for high school football games this week; the sky will be Thursday and Friday night.

THE WEEKEND: It continues to look warm and dry for most of the state with afternoon highs in the upper 80s. Partly sunny days, mostly fair nights. A weak front north of the state will most likely lose it’s identity over Tennessee Sunday.

The latest GFS runs look pretty dry into early next week with only isolated showers possible for the northern third of the state; highs Monday and Tuesday should be in the mid 80s. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: The weather will be clear for the Alabama/Ole Miss game Saturday night in Tuscaloosa with a kickoff temperature near 80 degrees (8:15p CT), falling through the 70s during the game. Auburn travels to Baton Rouge to play LSU Saturday… kickoff is at 2:30. It will feel more like summer with 90 degrees at kickoff with a mostly sunny sky.

TROPICS: The weather over the Gulf of Mexico is somewhat disturbed near the old surface front that brought the cooler air this past weekend, but conditions don’t favor any organization. Two tropical waves are over the Atlantic between Africa and the Lesser Antilles… there is some potential for slow development, but they will be gaining latitude and are not expected to impact the U.S.

AT THE BEACH: About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine daily on the coast from Gulf Shores east to Panama City Beach with a few scattered showers and thunderstorms through the weekend. Highs in the mid to upper 80s, sea water temperatures in the low 80s.
