| September 23, 2015 @ 3:39 pm

WARM AFTERNOON: Temperatures are in the low to mid 80s in most places this afternoon, very close to seasonal averages for the first day of autumn in Alabama.

No rain is on radar, and the sky will remain mostly fair tonight. Tomorrow looks warm again and generally dry, with only a small (10 percent) risk of any one spot seeing a shower.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Deeper moisture moves into Alabama from the east, meaning increased cloud cover a better chance of rain. The 12Z model set is a little more aggressive with showers, and we will forecast a pretty decent of a few passing showers Friday through the weekend. The rain won’t be continuous or especially heavy, and the sun will be out at times, but just be ready for some occasional rain on these three days. Afternoon highs will drop into the 75 to 80 degree range because of clouds and showers.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: No rain for the high school games tomorrow night, but Friday night’s games will be played under a cloudy sky with a threat of showers. I don’t expect any lightning delays, however. Temperatures will be in the 70s both nights.

Alabama will host ULM (University of Louisiana at Monroe) Saturday at 3:00 at Bryant Denny Stadium; there will be cloudy periods during the game, and a few showers are likely. Temperatures will fall from near 80 degrees at kickoff, into the mid 70s by the fourth quarter. Mississippi State will visit Auburn at Jordan Hare Stadium Saturday evening (6:30 kickoff)… the sky will be mostly cloudy with one or two showers likely during the game. Temperature at kickoff near 75 degrees, falling to near 70 by the final whistle.

NEXT WEEK: Scattered showers will remain possible for the first part of the week, and global models continue to develop a tropical low in the Gulf of Mexico. It remains to seen if this will be a signifiant system, or the ultimate destination. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: Tropical Storm Ida is disorganized, with winds of only 40 mph in the Central Atlantic. It will drift northward in coming days, far from land.

AT THE BEACH: About 6 to 8 hours of sunshine each day along the coast from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores with the chance of scattered showers or thunderstorms. Highs will be in the 80s, sea water temperatures are in the 78 to 82 degree range.
