Rain Returns Tomorrow

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; forecast notes below from Ryan Stinnett**

THE REST OF TODAY: Plenty of sunshine and very warm weather continues across Central Alabama today. Temperatures this afternoon are ranging from the lower to upper 80s. There is the threat of a few showers over eastern and southeastern portions of the area, but once again, it will remain mainly dry for the majority of us.

FOR FRIDAY: Our rain chances across Central Alabama will increase as a weak area of low pressure drifts in from the east. Expect periods of rain tomorrow, especially across eastern portions of the state. With the added clouds, rain, and easterly flow, expect temperatures to hang into the 70s all day.

ISOLATED IDA: Ida, now a tropical depression with winds of 35mph, continues to be all by herself out in the Atlantic and she has no real direction and continues to meander about the area, but still not expected to reach or impact the U.S. The rest of the basin is quiet and development is not expected this week.

SOMETHING OF INTEREST TO NOTE: A trough of low pressure is producing a large area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms over the western Caribbean Sea and Central America. This system is not expected to develop during the next day or two as it moves north-northwestward across Central America and the Yucatan Peninsula. Once the disturbance reaches the southern Gulf of Mexico in a few days, conditions could become a little more favorable for development while the system moves northward across the Gulf of Mexico.

It remains to be seen if a tropical low will impact the Central Gulf Coast next week, but it is not out of the question.

GULF COAST WEATHER: Abundant sunshine, and isolated late afternoon and evening showers are the forecast. The weather continues to be phenomenal this week, and for the most part that should continue into the weekend. Brisk northeast wind is giving some great surf with 2-3 feet waves, but also a moderate rip current threat. Water temperature today is still at 80 degrees. Temperatures are in the mid 80s each afternoon, with lows in the lower 70.

WEEKEND WEATHER: The overall pattern doesn’t bring us much change. There will be cloudy periods Saturday and Sunday along with the risk of scattered showers, but we will also see periods of sun as well. Highest rain coverage will be over East Alabama, and the high both days ranging from the upper 70s to close to 80 degrees. The rain won’t be too widespread or heavy, but showers are a distinct possibility over the weekend at just about anytime.

Alabama will host ULM (University of Louisiana at Monroe) Saturday at 3:00 at Bryant Denny Stadium; there will be cloudy periods during the game, but only a small risk of a passing shower. Temperatures will fall from near 84 degrees at kickoff, into the upper 70s by the fourth quarter.

Mississippi State will visit Auburn at Jordan Hare Stadium Saturday evening (6:30 kickoff)… the sky will be mostly cloudy with just an outside risk of a little light rain. Temperature at kickoff near 77 degrees, falling to near 70 by the final whistle.

NEXT WEEK: Partly sunny days with widely scattered showers, and highs in the low 80s are likely on most days. We will have to watch the Gulf of Mexico as there could be an area of low pressure developing. The chance of rain could increase significantly Tuesday and Wednesday as the tropical low could move up into the region from the Gulf of Mexico, but, a good bit of uncertainty remains. It is simply too early to know if this become a significant system, or the ultimate destination.
