RADAR CHECK: Showers, light rain, and patchy drizzle are over parts of Central Alabama this morning thanks to an upper low overhead.

The rest of the day will be cloudy and cool; we won’t get out of the 60s, and light rain is possible at times. The most widespread rain will be over the eastern half of the state, and the heavier rain totals will come over Northeast Alabama.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: No real change tomorrow. Cloudy, cool, and wet at times. Best chance of rain tomorrow will be along and east of I-65, with amounts to the west light and spotty. Like today, most communities won’t get out of the 60s. We should begin to see some decent breaks in the overcast Sunday, but we will still need to mention some risk of showers, especially south and east of Birmingham. We reach the low 70s Sunday afternoon.

NEXT WEEK: The upper low lifts out, and the weather will be warmer and drier. Mostly sunny days, and fair pleasant nights Monday through Friday with highs up in the low 80s on most days. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: For tonight’s high school games, it will be cloudy and cool with a chance of occasional rain. Best chance of rain will be at stadiums along and east of I-65, and temperatures will be in the low 60s.

Auburn hosts San Jose State tomorrow at Jordan Hare Stadium (3:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be cloudy with some light rain likely at times. Expect a kickoff temperature near 64 degrees, falling to near 60 by the fourth quarter. Alabama will take on Georgia at Athens Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff); rain is likely with temperatures in the low 60s. No lightning delays are expected, but the rain could be heavy at times. Take the rain gear… there is a flash flood watch in effect for Athens and East Georgia.

TOPIC: TROPICS: Joaquin remains a dangerous category four hurricane near the Central Bahamas; it will move northward today, and then turn northeast tonight. The European model was right all along… all American models have now moved over to that solution, keeping the system well offshore.

AT THE BEACH: Partly sunny days for Destin and Panama City Beach with a few scattered showers each day through Sunday; only a small risk of a shower for Pensacola and Gulf Shores with a good supply of sunshine. Next week looks dry and pleasant for the entire Central Gulf Coast… See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.
