As you can see from the radar image above made just after 8:00 am, rain was falling in a wide band from just west of Alexander City in Tallapoosa County northward across Talladega, Lincoln, Gadsden, Boaz, and Scottsboro. The general motion of the rain area was to the southwest – yes, that’s right, from northeast toward the southwest. Forward speed was between 25 and 30 mph. Rainfall amounts today in Alabama have been fairly light with radar estimated values from coming in under a quarter of an inch.

The visible satellite image showed clouds blanketing nearly all of Alabama. The only exception were some breaks in the clouds across Southeast Alabama. With the clouds in place and not likely to clear out any time soon, we do not expect to see much in the way of temperature change with highs for much of Central and North Alabama only in the 60s.

PS Just after I posted this originally, our Skywatcher in Black Creek, Vic Bell, sent a note reporting that this was the 10th straight day with rain for Black Creek. He also noted that it was coming down heavily. Thanks, Vic, we really appreciate your reports.
