Trending Warmer and Drier This Week

| October 5, 2015 @ 6:37 am

IMPROVING WEATHER: After a cloudy, cool, damp weekend, the upper low responsible for the gloomy weather is moving away from us. We project a mix of sun and clouds today, with only a very small risk of any one spot seeing a shower over East Alabama. The high this afternoon will be in the 75-78 degree range for most.

TOMORROW THROUGH THURSDAY: The weather on these three days will be warm and dry. Mostly sunny days, fair nights. We reach the low 80s tomorrow, and mid 80s are a good possibility Wednesday and Thursday (yes, we can have some very warm days in early October). Morning lows will be in the 60s.

FRIDAY FRONT: A surface front will pass through the state Friday, but the main upper support is far to the north, and moisture will be limited. This could squeeze out a few scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm, but it won’t be a big rain event. We will be up in the low to mid 80s Friday afternoon.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Looking dry and pleasant with cooler air slipping in from the north following the Friday front. We expect a good supply of sunshine Saturday and Sunday with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. We stay dry into early next week; keep in mind October is our driest month of the year, so long dry spells this time of the year are to be expected.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama will host Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium Saturday evening (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly fair, with temperatures falling from 74 at kickoff into the mid 60s by the final whistle. Auburn takes this weekend off.

TROPICS: Hurricane Joaquin now has sustained winds of 85 mph, and is moving east over the open North Atlantic. It will pass north of the Azores later this week as it becomes post-tropical. And, a disturbance over the Central Atlantic has some slow chance of development in coming days as it moves northwest.
