Ramblings on October Weather

| October 7, 2015 @ 12:51 pm

Just completing the first week of October, and so far, I’ve only recorded 21 hundredths of an inch (0.21″) in my rain gauge. The Birmingham Shuttlesworth International Airport reported only 14 hundredths of an inch (0.14″) so far. I presume there should not be reason for concern since, in the overall scheme of things, October is the driest month of the year on average. Here’s the table showing the 30-year averages for Birmingham based on observations at the airport.

Thanks to the interactive web site developed by the Midwestern Regional Climate Center, we can also look at a map of the specific 30-year averages for rainfall for all of Alabama. Here is that map.

The area centered on Montgomery actually has the lowest 30-year average for the whole state while the northwest corner and part of coastal Alabama have the greatest 30-year average rainfall.

As the title said, just some ramblings on October weather. And I sure do like these cool mornings.
