RADAR CHECK: We have a few showers on radar early this morning over Northeast Alabama, otherwise the weather is quiet with temperatures in the 60s.

THE DAY AHEAD: We will have a mix of sun and clouds today with the chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms; the high this afternoon will be up in the low to mid 80s. Showers and storms will be more numerous tonight as a cold front pushes into the state; we note that SPC has a “marginal” risk of severe weather defined for parts of Tennessee and Kentucky, severe thunderstorms are not expected over North Alabama, but a strong one is possible.

The latest guidance hints the most organized showers and thunderstorms will move through between 4:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. Average rain amounts will be around 1/2 inch, but your total could vary due to the scattered nature of the showers.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: It sure looks like most of the rain will be out of the state by 6:00 a.m. tomorrow; any lingering clouds move out quickly, and the day will be mostly sunny and cooler with a high in the mid 70s. The sky will stay clear Sunday; we begin the day with a low around 50, and colder pockets visit the 40s. The high Sunday afternoon will be in the upper 70s for most communities.

NEXT WEEK: The weather looks quiet; a cold front will pass through late Monday night/early Tuesday morning with some potential to squeeze out a shower, but the air will be very dry and most places won’t see any rain. A fresh supply of dry, cooler air arrives during the day Tuesday, and no rain is expected Tuesday through Friday. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: A few showers and storms are likely at high school games tonight. A lightning delay or two is certainly possible; temperatures will be in the 70s. Take the rain gear.

Alabama will host Arkansas at Bryant-Denny Stadium tomorrow evening (6:00p CT kickoff)… the sky will be mostly fair, with temperatures falling from 68 degrees at kickoff into the low 60s by the final whistle. Some will want a light jacket or sweater walking from the stadium back to your car after the game.

NATIONAL SHRIMP FESTIVAL: The weather looks very nice in Gulf Shores for the annual event this weekend; mostly sunny days, fair nights, highs around 80 degrees. The chance of a shower is so small we won’t mention it in the forecast. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.
