Cool Mornings, Warm Afternoons

| October 14, 2015 @ 6:06 am

CRISP AUTUMN MORNING: Most communities are in the 40s early this morning across North/Central Alabama; coolest spot I can find is Black Creek, just northeast of Gadsden, with 41 degrees.

Temperatures

It is that time of the year when it feels like winter in the morning, and summer in the afternoon, making it hard to dress appropriately. The air in place is very dry, and it heats and cools very efficiently. We will rise to near 80 degrees this afternoon, and like yesterday it will be hard to find a cloud in the Alabama sky.

We reach the low 80s tomorrow and Friday with a good supply of sunshine both days.

COOL WEEKEND AHEAD: The coolest air so far this fall season arrives over the weekend; highs drop into the 67-70 degree range Saturday and Sunday, and lows early Sunday will be well down in the 40s. Colder pockets across North/Central Alabama will visit the 30s… not out of the question that a few valley locations could even see a touch of light frost for the first time this season.

NEXT WEEK: Dry weather continues Monday through Wednesday; global models are backing off on the rain potential at the end of the week, now suggesting any showers will be rather light and spotty. And, interesting to note that both the GFS and the ECMWF show a tropical low in the far southwest Gulf of Mexico at the end of next week. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn travels to Lexington to play Kentucky tomorrow night.. the weather will be clear and cool with temperatures dropping from near 60 degrees at kickoff (6:00 p.m. CT) into the low 50s by the final whistle.

Alabama plays at Texas A&M Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff)… in College Station the sky will be sunny, with about 85 degrees at kickoff. Temperatures will fall into the upper 70s by the final whistle.

AT THE BEACH: Beautiful weather from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach through the weekend; sunny days, fair nights. Highs around 80, and lows in the 60s… but the weekend will be cooler with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin remains quiet, and tropical storm formation is not expected through the weekend. The hurricane season runs through the end of November.
