Much Cooler Air For The Weekend

| October 15, 2015 @ 6:17 am

ANOTHER CHILLY MORNING: Temperatures are generally in the 45-52 degree range across the great state of Alabama early this morning, but the morning chill won’t last long. The dry air will heat very quickly today, and we project a high in the mid 80s this afternoon. The record high for today (at Birmingham) is 90, set in 1897 (no, I wasn’t going weather on TV back then)… that isn’t in danger, but we will be well above the average high of 75.

Like recent days, we expect maximum available sunshine today. Temperatures begin to trend downward tomorrow; the sky will remain sunny, but the high will drop into the 77-80 degree range.

COOL WEEKEND: The coolest air so far this season arrives for the weekend. Looks like we will see a low between 40 and 44 degrees both Saturday and Sunday morning, and we still expect lows in the upper 30s in colder valleys and protected areas at daybreak Sunday. Maybe even a touch of light frost in a few spots. Both days will feature sunshine in full supply with highs between 66 and 70 degrees.

NEXT WEEK: Dry, pleasant fall weather continues for the first half of the week, but an approaching cold front could bring a few showers late in the week. The main dynamic support passes well to the north of Alabama, however, and any rain Thursday or Friday for now looks to be light and spotty.

TROPICAL MISCHIEF? Both the GFS and the ECMWF show a tropical system lifting northward out of the Gulf of Mexico the following weekend (October 24-25) with potential for a big rain event across parts of the Gulf Coast states. Let’s point out here this is out in voodoo land, and this might, or might not happen. There has been good consistency in the idea, however, and the pattern favors something like this.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn travels to Lexington to play Kentucky tonight.. the weather will be clear and cool with temperatures dropping from the low 60s at kickoff (6:00 p.m. CT) into the mid 50s by the final whistle.

Alabama plays at Texas A&M Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff)… in College Station the sky will be sunny, with about 85 degrees at kickoff. Temperatures will fall into the upper 70s by the final whistle.

AT THE BEACH: Beautiful weather from Gulf Shores over to Panama City Beach through the weekend; sunny days, fair nights. Highs around 80, and lows in the 60s… but the weekend will be cooler with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.
