Warmer Days Ahead; Still Dry

| October 20, 2015 @ 1:55 pm

**No afternoon Weather Xtreme video today; I am traveling back to Alabama from the National Weather Association annual meeting in Oklahoma City**

SUNNY TUESDAY: Temperatures are generally in the low 70s across the great state of Alabama this afternoon with a sunny sky.

Temperatures-2

The air stays dry through Friday, and we will continue a forecast of sunny days, clear nights, and a slow warming trend. We reach the upper 70s tomorrow, 80 degrees Thursday, and low to mid 80s Friday. Morning lows will be generally in the 50s.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Saturday continues to look warm and dry, with a partly sunny sky and a high in the low 80s. We will continue to mention a chance of showers Sunday; confidence is not especially high since the GFS model shows the state to be rain-free, while the ECMWF (European) model looks fairly wet. The Euro has had a pretty good track record this season, and we will lean more toward the wetter solution in the forecast. The high Sunday will drop back into the 70s.

NEXT WEEK: We will hold on to some risk of showers early in the week, and it looks like a cold front will pass through at mid-week on Wednesday with a better coverage of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm. Cooler air follows the front Thursday and Friday with highs dropping back into the 60s.

RACE WEEKEND AT TALLADEGA: Dry weather is the story at the Talladega Superspeedway this week and into Saturday with mostly sunny, warm days and fair, cool nights. The forecast challenge involves Sunday; as noted above we have “model madness” with conflicting solutions. For now we will forecast a mostly cloudy day Sunday with a few passing rain showers possible; we will have better clarity on the situation as the weekend gets closer.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Alabama will host Tennessee at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff… the weather will be partly sunny and warm with temperatures falling from around 82 at kickoff, into the mid 70s by the fourth quarter. No significant chance of rain.

Auburn is on the road; they travel to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 11:00a CT Saturday. The sky will be mostly cloudy, with a passing shower or thunderstorm likely during the game. Temperatures will hover in the 67-70 degree range. Take the rain gear.

AT THE BEACH: Sunny days, fair nights on the coast from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores through Saturday; a few showers could show up Sunday. Highs in the 70s; lows in the 60s… See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.
