Dry Through The Weekend; Warm Afternoons

| October 22, 2015 @ 6:15 am

STILL DRY: Today will be the 12th consecutive day without measurable rain for most Alabama communities, and it sure looks like the dry spell continues through the weekend. Understand this is expected in October, our driest month of the year based on climate averages.

Afternoons will continue to trend warmer; we will be around 80 degrees this afternoon, and low to mid 80s are likely tomorrow. The record high for tomorrow (October 23) is 89 set in 1941; that should be safe.

THE WEEKEND: Partly sunny, warm days, and fair nights Saturday and Sunday. Looks like highs both days will be in the low 80s, with lows around 60 degrees. Rain stays west of Alabama, where flooding will be a concern for parts of Texas, Oklahoma, and possibly Arkansas.

NEXT WEEK: Our long stretch of dry days will come to an end. A potential tropical low over the western Gulf of Mexico will move northeast, interacting with an upper trough and surface cold front… rain should begin at some point Monday, becoming more widespread, and possibly heavy at times Tuesday and into Wednesday. Rain amounts between 1 and 2 inches are likely before it ends Wednesday evening. No severe weather, just a good bit of rain. Drier and cooler air will arrive Thursday and Friday… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

TROPICS: The Atlantic basin is quiet, but Patricia has become a hurricane in the eastern Pacific, and will make landfall on the Mexican coast Friday evening. Moisture from this will stream into Texas, setting up potential for an extended flash flooding threat.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Dry, pleasant weather for high school football games across the state tonight and tomorrow; the sky will be mostly fair with temperatures falling through the 70s.

Alabama will host Tennessee at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa Saturday (2:30p CT kickoff)… the weather will be partly sunny and warm with temperatures falling from around 82 at kickoff, into the mid 70s by the fourth quarter. No significant chance of rain.

Auburn is on the road; they travel to Fayetteville to take on the Arkansas Razorbacks at 11:00a CT Saturday. The sky will be mostly cloudy, with rain and thunderstorms likely during the game. Temperatures will hover in the 67-70 degree range. Take the rain gear; it could be a soaker with heavy rain possible at times.

AT THE BEACH: Sunny days, fair nights on the coast from Panama City Beach west to Gulf Shores through Saturday; a few scattered showers could show up Sunday; higher rain chances return on the coast early next week. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals.
