Breezy, Wet Weather Continues

| October 26, 2015 @ 3:06 pm

RADAR CHECK: I do believe every square inch of Alabama has received a good bit of rain over the past 12 hours. Rain continues to fall this afternoon ahead of the “ghost of Patricia”… the remnants of former eastern Pacific Hurricane Patricia. Storm structure is pretty impressive… but it is not a classic warm core tropical storm. Still, winds on the Gulf Coast have gusted to 50 mph today with lots of flooding near the coast with very rough surf.

A flash flood watch remains in effect for far South Alabama, and SPC still defines a “marginal risk” of severe storms along the Central Gulf Coast tonight.

Up this way, rain continues tonight and tomorrow. Not enough rain for any flooding issues, and no severe weather problems. Most North/Central Alabama communities have received between 1 and 2 inches of rain so far, and an additional 1-2 inches of rain are possible through tomorrow night. Temperatures will go nowhere, holding mostly in the mid to upper 60s.

WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY: Lingering showers are possible Wednesday, especially during the morning hours, and the sky will remain mostly cloudy with a high in the low to mid 70s. Thursday looks generally dry despite a cold front passing through; moisture will be very limited and the chance of rain with the front is so small we won’t mention it in the forecast. And, Friday looks to be a beautiful fall day with a good supply of sunshine; we start the day in the 40s, followed by a high around 70. Should be a great night for high school football.

THE ALABAMA WEEKEND: Clouds return to the state Saturday ahead of the next rain maker to the west. The 12Z run of the GFS is a little slower; hinting it might be late Saturday night before the rain gets here. Meaning, trick or treaters might stay dry for their annual run. But, it is a very close call, and the timing could change again. Sunday looks like a wet day with periods of rain and possibly a thunderstorm. Highs for the weekend will be generally in the low 70s.

NEXT WEEK: Dry air returns Monday, and the first half of the week looks rain-free with highs in the 70s. See the Weather Xtreme Video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Auburn hosts Ole Miss Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 11:00; at this point the weather looks mostly cloudy, but the chance of rain holds off until late Saturday night, well after the game is finished. Temperatures will rise from the upper 60s at kickoff into the low 70s by the fourth quarter.

Alabama takes the weekend off.

AT THE BEACH: Tomorrow will be another day of rain and gusty winds, but showers taper off Wednesday, and the weather will be dry Thursday and Friday with sunny days and fair nights. Next chance of rain comes up late in the weekend on Sunday… See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here.
