The sky will become partly to mostly sunny today with a high in the 72-75 degree range. We should point out today’s average high (based on about 100 years of data) for Birmingham is 70 degrees.

Tomorrow looks delightful, with ample sunshine and low humidity. We begin the day down in the mid 40s, and the high will be right around 70 degrees. The fall colors against the cobalt blue sky will be superb.

MORE RAIN OVER THE WEEKEND: Clouds move in quickly Saturday, and rain enters the state during the afternoon hours. Rain could begin in Tuscaloosa as early as 2:00… Birmingham around 3-4:00, and Anniston/Gadsden by 5-6:00. Looks pretty wet for the trick or treaters this year.

Rain continues Saturday night and Sunday; a few thunderstorms could be involved, but model solutions for now suggest no significant risk of severe weather with very little surface based instability and marginal lapse rates. But, it looks like a good soaking with rain amounts of 2-3″ for North/Central Alabama.

NEXT WEEK: Showers end early in the day Monday, the rest of the week looks relatively dry, and very mild thanks to a strong upper ridge over the Southeast U.S. Daily highs will be well up in the 70s, about ten degrees above average for early November. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Perfect weather for the high school football games across the state tonight and tomorrow night; clear and cool with temperatures falling through the 60s; some stadiums will be in the 50s by the fourth quarter.

For Saturday’s Magic City Classic in Birmingham… the sky will be cloudy when Alabama State and Alabama A&M kickoff at Legion Field (2:30p CT), temperatures will fall from the 70 degrees at kickoff into the upper 60s by the fourth quarter. It now looks like rain will begin at some point during the second half of the game, with widespread rain expected on through Saturday night.

Auburn hosts Ole Miss Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 11:00; at this point the weather looks mostly cloudy, but the chance of rain holds off after the final whistle. Temperatures will rise from the upper 60s at kickoff to near 70 degrees. by the fourth quarter.

Alabama takes the weekend off.
