Rain Returns Over The Weekend

| October 30, 2015 @ 3:30 pm

FINE FALL DAY: As advertised, it has been a delightful day across Alabama. Sunshine through high clouds, a cobalt blue sky, and some really nice fall colors (photo below from Joey Amberson)

Temperatures are in the 68-72 degree range in most communities. Tonight will be dry and cool; temperatures fall into the mid to upper 40s in most spots.

WET WEEKEND: Clouds spread into the state after midnight tonight, and rain begins tomorrow afternoon. The rain could start near the Mississippi border as early as 1:00… projected rain arrival times include 3:00 at Tuscaloosa, 5:00 at Birmingham, and 7:00 for Anniston/Gadsden. Of course, these are approximate times and they could change.

Widespread rain and thunderstorms are likely tomorrow night and Sunday; severe weather is not expected over the northern two-thirds of the state, and even closer to the coast the chance is small. But, it will be a good soaking, and the rain could be heavy at times. Many communities will get two inches of rain, some could see more…

NEXT WEEK: Rain will end from west to east Monday morning, but clouds will probably linger through much of the day. Then, the rest of the week is looking dry and very mild, with daily highs in the mid to upper 70s thanks to an upper ridge across the Deep South. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Perfect weather for the high school football games across the state tonight; fair and cool with temperatures falling into the 50s.

For tomorrow’s Magic City Classic in Birmingham… the sky will be cloudy when Alabama State and Alabama A&M kickoff at Legion Field (2:30p CT), temperatures will fall from the 70 degrees at kickoff into the upper 60s by the fourth quarter. It still looks like rain could move into Birmingham during the game; best chance of rain will come during the second half. Temperatures will fall from near 70 at kickoff into the 60s by the final whistle.

Auburn hosts Ole Miss tomorrow at Jordan-Hare Stadium at 11:00; at this point the weather looks cloudy, but the chance of rain will hold off after the final whistle. Temperatures will rise from the upper 60s at kickoff to near 70 degrees. by the fourth quarter.

Alabama takes the weekend off.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny weather is the story today with highs in the 70s. A shower is possible tomorrow, with widespread rain likely with a few strong thunderstorms tomorrow night and Sunday.
