Trending Drier Tomorrow

| November 2, 2015 @ 7:34 am

STILL WET: After a thorough soaking over the weekend, rain continues to fall across parts of Alabama this morning. A flash flood watch is in effect for much of East and Southeast Alabama, where additional rain amount of 1-2 inches are possible…

A few severe storms are possible this morning across Southeast Alabama as well; an isolated tornado can’t be ruled out there. No severe storms or flooding for the northern half of the state, but periods of rain will continue this morning.

The rain will end from west to east this afternoon.

MID-WEEK: No doubt the weather will trend drier tomorrow and Wednesday, but lots of low level moisture will remain with dew points in the 60s. Expect morning clouds both days, some afternoon sun, and we can’t rule out a few isolated showers. But, there is no forcing mechanism for widespread rain, and many communities will be dry on these two days.

A few widely scattered showers are possible Thursday afternoon as moisture begins to deepen across the state. And, the weather will be unseasonably mild, with highs in the mid to upper 70s tomorrow through Thursday.

FRIDAY: A large upper trough will lift out of the western U.S., and a surface cold front will push in our direction. The chance of rain begins to increase Friday afternoon and Friday night, and the weather stays mild with a high well up in the 70s. A thunderstorm or two could even be involved Friday night.

THE WEEKEND: No doubt the weekend starts wet, with rain and thunderstorms likely late Friday night into at least part of the day Saturday. The big question involves timing the back edge of the rain. Model consistency is not good; the 06Z GFS pushes the rain out of here by midday Saturday, while the ECMWF (European) doesn’t push the rain out of here until Saturday night.

Keep in mind we are now in the late fall tornado season (November/December), so we will be watching for potential for strong storms as the weekend begins, but for now it doesn’t look like a severe weather setup. Rain amounts of 1-2 inches look likely Friday through Saturday.

The good news is that Sunday looks like a beautiful day, with ample sunshine and lower humidity. We drop into the 40s early Sunday morning, followed by a high in the 60s.

NEXT WEEK: Monday and Tuesday look cool and dry; another round of rain and storms is possible by mid-week. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Forecast confidence for the Alabama/LSU game in Tuscaloosa Saturday night (7:00p CT kickoff) is not especially high as noted above, but I do believe there is a decent chance the rain will be over by kickoff. No guarantee, and this could easily change. Temperatures will fall from around 65 at kickoff into the 50s by the second half.

Auburn is on the road; they face Texas A&M in College Station Saturday night (6:30p CT kickoff)… the weather there is very similar to the weather expected in Tuscaloosa. Rain and storms are likely during the day Saturday, but it looks like the rain will end before kickoff. Temperatures will fall from the mid 60s at kickoff, to near 60 degrees by the final whistle.

Again, the forecast for both games can change, so check for updates through the week..

AT THE BEACH: Rain and storms today; then about 4 to 6 hours of sunshine daily tomorrow through Thursday with a few widely scattered showers or storms. The chance of rain will increase on the coast again by Friday and Saturday… See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.
