WeatherBrains 101: Lost My Share Button!

| November 3, 2015 @ 5:15 am

WeatherBrains Episode 511 is now online (November 2, 2015). If you are crazy about weather, this is THE netcast audio program for you!

Tom Bird is a lead forecaster in the El Paso, TX, National Weather Service (NWS) office and our guest for this episode. Tom has been the office IMET for over a decade. IMET stands for Incident Meteorologist, i.e., a meteorologist assigned to incident command centers whenever large events are occurring to provide direct weather support to public safety operations such as fighting large wildfires. In the past years, Tom has been to many large and complex fires around the country to provide onsite weather forecast support. With his experience, Tom should be able to provide a close view of the IMET program and what it entails. This show suggestion came from Tim Brice, a senior forecaster at NWS El Paso.

Other discussions in this weekly podcast include topics like:

  • Extremes: 95 at Imperial, CA, and 18 at Crested Butte, CO, and 3 miles southwest of Gunnison, CO
  • Did you know El Paso area is called “Borderland?”
  • Little severe weather expected for next several days
  • Coming off big rain events across Texas and Louisiana and the Southeast US
  • Cloudy over the Northwest US with warm in Central US
  • Astronomy Outlook with Tony Rice
  • and more!

Our email bag officer is out tonight, so she will have emails from listeners next week.

From The Weather Center:
