RADAR CHECK: A number of showers and thunderstorms continue to move eastward across Alabama this afternoon. Not much lightning, but there are a few heavy downpours…

Temperatures are mostly in the upper 70s, although a few spots have exceeded the 80 degree mark. This will be our last of warmth for a while.

Showers and storms will slowly increase in coverage tonight as a cold front near Memphis slowly approaches. The good news is that SPC has dropped the “marginal risk” of severe weather for the Deep South.

TOMORROW: The day will be wet and much cooler. Rain is likely much of the day (although there will be breaks); the most widespread rain will be from I-20 north. South of I-20, showers are likely, but the rain there will be more scattered in nature. We won’t get out of the 60s as cooler air slips into the state from the north.

Rain will taper off tomorrow night from northwest to southeast.

SUNDAY/MONDAY: These two days will be mostly cloudy and very cool. Most of the day Sunday will be dry, although we can’t rule out a few sprinkles. Then, on Monday, a little scattered light rain is possible on a day when temperatures won’t get out of the 50s over the northern counties of Alabama thanks to the cold air damming effect.

REST OF NEXT WEEK: Tuesday will be brighter and warmer with a high in the upper 60s. Then, a cold front will bring a chance of showers, and possibly a thunderstorm late Wednesday night and Thursday… for now it doesn’t look like a severe weather threat. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Scattered showers and a few thunderstorms are likely for tonight’s high school playoff games. It won’t rain at every stadium, but be ready for some rain at any time. One or two lightning delays are not out of the question. Temperatures will fall from the low 70s at kickoff into the 60s during the games.

For the Bama/LSU game tomorrow night at Bryant-Denny Stadium (7:00p CT kickoff), we expect light rain as the game begins, ending at some point during the game. Temperatures will fall from 60 degrees at kickoff into the cool 50s. We don’t expect any issues with lightning. And, for tailgaters, understand rain is likely much of the day tomorrow in Tuscaloosa before kickoff.

Auburn takes on the Aggies of Texas A&M at 6:30p CT at College Station; just an outside risk of a lingering shower during the first half; otherwise dry with temperatures falling into the 50s.

AT THE BEACH: Warm with scattered showers and storms tomorrow and Sunday; See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.
