RADAR CHECK: Most of the rain this morning is south and east of Birmingham…

Otherwise, it is a cloudy and cool morning with temperatures between 48 and 53 in most places. The rain should push into Georgia by midday, but clouds will linger today, and like yesterday most places won’t get out of the 50s. The average high for November 9 (for Birmingham) is 67.

TOMORROW: Some clouds could hang tough through the early morning hours, but the sky becomes partly to mostly sunny, and we rise into the mid 60s by afternoon as dry air takes over.

WEDNESDAY: Another beautiful day for Alabama; a good chance we hit the low 70s with a mostly sunny sky. But, to the north and west, a dynamic storm system will bring the threat of severe weather to the nation’s mid-section.

A deep surface low will move up into the Great Lakes region late Wednesday night, and the trailing cold front will push a band of showers and storms into far Northwest Alabama around midnight. Initially the storms could be pretty heavy with strong gusty winds, but they should weaken as they move deeper into Alabama during the pre-dawn hours Thursday. With no surface based instability, and the dynamic support so far to the north, severe weather is not expected across North/Central Alabama early Thursday morning. Many places won’t even hear thunder.

The main risk of showers early Thursday will come from about 2:00 until 7:00 a.m., and rain amounts should be well under 1/2 inch. The sky becomes mostly sunny during the day Thursday with a high in the 60s.

FRIDAY AND THE WEEKEND: Friday will feature a sunny sky with a high in the mid 60s. The good news is that we stay rain-free over the weekend with a cloudless sky Saturday and Sunday, but the weather turns colder, with highs mostly in the 50s, and lows in the 30s. Some places will see their first freeze of the season Saturday and Sunday morning, frost is likely both mornings. Lows will be generally in the 30-35 degree range, with upper 20s possible for colder spots.

NEXT WEEK: Looks like the next chance of showers will be on Tuesday (November 17)… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.
