COLD, GLOOMY DAY: Clouds cover almost all of Alabama this afternoon, with some patchy light rain lingering near the Georgia border…

GOES200020153138Vd6CG

Temperatures are in the 50s, about ten degrees below average for early November in Alabama.

TOMORROW/WEDNESDAY: The weather will be brighter and warmer on these days. Any lingering clouds early tomorrow will dissipate, and we expect a partly to mostly sunny sky both days. The high tomorrow will rise into the 60s, with low 70s possible Wednesday.

TO THE WEST: A deep surface low will form over the Great Plains tomorrow night, and will set the stage for severe thunderstorms across parts of the nation’s mid-section Wednesday afternoon into Wednesday night.

The surface low will move to the Great Lakes Wednesday night, and the trailing cold front will push a band of showers and storms into far Northwest Alabama around midnight. Initially, these storm could produce strong gusty winds, but they should steadily weaken as they move deeper into Alabama during the pre-dawn hours Thursday.

Our main window for showers will come from about 2:00 until 8:00 a.m. Thursday, and severe weather is not expected across North/Central Alabama. Probably very little thunder.

THURSDAY/FRIDAY: Once the showers move east of here early Thursday, the sky becomes partly sunny, with an afternoon high in the 60s. Friday will be a windy day thanks to a tight pressure gradient over the state; the sky will be sunny with a high in the low 60s.

WEEKEND FREEZE POTENTIAL: We are still projecting lows in the 30-35 degree range early Saturday and Sunday morning, and potential for 20s across colder valleys and protected areas of North Alabama. It will be the coldest air so far this season. Expect blue sky and sunshine in full supply Saturday and Sunday; the high Saturday will be in the mid 50s, followed by low 60s Sunday.

NEXT WEEK: Still looks like the next chance of showers will come around the middle part of next week; see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Clear and cold for the Friday night high school playoff games; temperatures will fall into the 40s.

Auburn hosts Georgia Saturday at Jordan Hare Stadium (11:00a CT kickoff)… the sky will be sunny with temperatures rising from near 54 at kickoff to 57 by the final whistle.

Alabama takes on Mississippi State over in Starkville at Davis Wade Stadium (2:30p CT kickoff)… the expect a sun filled sky. About 60 degrees at kickoff, falling into the low 50s by the fourth quarter.

AT THE BEACH: Expect dry and pleasant tomorrow and Wednesday, then a risk of showers on Thursday. The weather will be dry and cool Friday through the weekend from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores. See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here.
