Cold Air Blast Sunday

| November 19, 2015 @ 3:26 pm

FINE FALL DAY: What a delightful day across the great state of Alabama with ample sunshine, low humidity, and temperatures generally in the 65-70 degree range.

Temperatures

The weather won’t change much tomorrow… expect a sunny sky statewide; we begin the day in the low 40s, followed by a high in the low to mid 60s.

WEEKEND CHANGES: A cold front will pass through the state Saturday; the air will be very dry, but the front could squeeze out a few isolated showers over North/Central Alabama during the late afternoon or evening hours. Rain amounts, if any, should be light. Otherwise, Saturday will feature a mix of sun and clouds with a high in the low to mid 60s.

We should note the high resolution NAM model does show a better chance of rain Saturday over South Alabama, where moisture levels will be higher.

Then, the coldest air so far this season arrives Sunday. We start the day around 30 degrees, and it sure looks like we won’t get past the mid 40s despite sunshine in full supply. Monday morning will be very cold, with mid 20s likely as far south as Birmingham, Tuscaloosa, and Anniston.

THANKSGIVING WEEK: For now the weather across Alabama looks rain-free for the entire week with a slow warming trend; by Thanksgiving Day we project a low around 40 degrees, followed by a high in the mid 60s.

Unfortunately the GFS is still showing a decent chance of showers for Iron Bowl Saturday, November 28. But, this is out in voodoo land, and could easily change. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

FOOTBALL WEATHER: Perfect weather for the high school playoff games Friday night; clear with temperatures falling through the 50s, perhaps reaching the 40s by the fourth quarter. No risk of rain.

Alabama hosts Charleston Southern Saturday (3:00p CT kickoff) at Bryant-Denny Stadium; the sky will feature a mix of sun and clouds, and we will introduce a small risk of a shower during the game. Temperatures falling from around 62 degrees at the start of the game, into the mid 40s by the final whistle.

Auburn will host Idaho at Jordan-Hare Stadium Saturday (also kicking off at 3:00 CT).. the sky will be mostly cloudy, and a few showers are possible during the game. Temperatures near 60 at kickoff, dropping into the mid 40s by the end of the game.

AT THE BEACH: Mostly sunny weather continues along the coast tomorrow, but a few showers are possible Saturday. Then, most of next week will be dry and pleasant.
