Warming Trend Begins This Afternoon

| November 24, 2015 @ 5:54 am

ANOTHER COLD ONE: Vic Bell, our Skywatcher at Black Creek (just northeast of Gadsden), reports 23 degrees early this morning with a “monster frost”. Most communities are somewhere between 28 and 32.

The good news is that a warming trend begins this afternoon; with a sunny sky we project a high around 60 degrees, just a few degrees below average for November 24.

FOR THANKSGIVING: Our weather stays dry through Friday with the warm-up continuing. We reach the low 60s tomorrow, and mid 60s tomorrow and Thanksgiving afternoon. Upper 60s are very possible, if not likely Friday afternoon. Each day will feature a good deal of sunshine, although there will be scattered clouds around tomorrow through Friday. Morning lows will be mostly in the 40s.

For travelers tomorrow, the main problem around the nation will be snow for the northern Rockies…

THE WEEKEND: Models continue to trend dry, keeping rain well to the west of our state, where some flooding issues are possible over Texas and Oklahoma as moisture from eastern Pacific Tropical Storm Sandra gets involved with a slow moving surface front. We will forecast a partly sunny sky Saturday and Sunday with mild afternoons; the latest GFS run is printing a high of 72 for Birmingham Saturday… then upper 60s Sunday. A few showers could creep into Northwest Alabama Sunday, but a decent part of the state will stay rain-free.

NEXT WEEK: Showers are possible Monday, and possibly into part of the day Tuesday, but it doesn’t look like a big rain event. Cooler air follows for mid-week… see the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

IRON BOWL: The weather looks great. Partly sunny Saturday at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn with a kickoff temperature (2:30pm) near 68 degrees… falling into the upper 50s by the final whistle.

AT THE BEACH: Sunny days, fair nights through the weekend from Panama City Beach over to Gulf Shores with a slow warming trend; See the complete Gulf Coast 7 Day Planner here. The Gulf Coast Beach Forecast is presented by Gulf Shores Plantation by Mandoki Hospitality Vacation Rentals. Escape to Gulf Shores Plantation where memories last a lifetime.
