Warmer Days Ahead For Alabama

| November 24, 2015 @ 3:19 pm

PLEASANT FALL DAY: Temperatures are in the 56-60 degree range for most North/Central Alabama communities this afternoon with sunshine through mid-level clouds. Nothing on radar.

Most of us will stay above freezing tonight; most places will see a low near 40 degrees, although the colder valleys of North Alabama could approach 32.

TOMORROW THROUGH FRIDAY: We stay dry, and the warming trend continues. The high tomorrow will be in the low 60s, followed by mid 60s Thanksgiving afternoon. We will enjoy 70 degree warmth Friday. Each day will feature a mix of sun and clouds, and there is no chance of rain.

TRAVEL TOMORROW: The biggest problem around the nation will be potential for heavy snow across the northern Rockies. No issues for major airports (at least weather related) around the nation, and the eastern states will be dry.

THE WEEKEND: Saturday looks mild and dry. Partly sunny with a high up in the low 70s; that is ten degrees above average for late November around here. We will mention a chance of showers across the northern half of the state Sunday, but it looks like rain amounts will be fairly light. The high Sunday will drop back into the mid 60s.

NEXT WEEK: Showers are possible Monday and Tuesday thanks to a slow moving front, but moisture will be limited, and rain amounts look light. Drier and cooler air returns Wednesday. See the Weather Xtreme video for maps, graphics, and more details.

IRON BOWL: Looks like delightful weather for the biggest football game of the year in Alabama. Expect a partly sunny sky Saturday in Auburn, and the kickoff temperature (2:30p CT) at Jordan-Hare Stadium will be close to 70 degrees… falling into the upper 50s by the final whistle.

ON THIS DATE IN 2001: On this date in 2001, thirty six tornadoes touched down on a Saturday in Alabama killing four people. It set a record for the number of tornadoes in a single day for the state until that time. It surpassed the previous record for the state which was set during the April 3, 1974 outbreak, when 27 twisters hit the state. Of course, the record would be shattered on April 27, 2011, when 62 tornadoes blitzed our state.
