Cold Day for Central Alabama

| January 10, 2016 @ 1:13 pm

There’s no doubt that the cold air has arrived in Central Alabama. Temperatures have gone almost no where today as a result of the very strong cold air advection that is underway. The detailed Birmingham weather observations show that the temperature has been as high as 39 and as low as 36 today.

Temperatures

Perhaps, as the sky clears from the west and northwest and we get a little bit more sunshine during the afternoon, it will add a couple of degrees to the air temperature, but don’t look for much warming.

Coldest morning of the current winter season is expected Monday morning. Look for lows in the lower 20s with some of those normally colder locations to fall into the upper teens (16 to 19). The last time the low temperature reached 22 degrees or lower in Birmingham was March 6, 2015, about 10 months ago. In fact, the Birmingham low temperature dipped to 22 degrees or lower only 10 times during 2015.

Temperatures are expected to remain fairly chilly through the middle of the week.
