A few snow flurries were flying across parts of North and Central Alabama on this rather miserable January Sunday. Everyone is cloudy and cold, with a thick layer of low stratus and temperatures in the 30s. Wind chills are in the 20s almost area wide with a brisk northwesterly wind averaging 10-20 mph. Winds are gusting to over 20 mph over South Alabama.

Clearing was working in from the northwest and most areas (at least along and northwest of I-20) should see sunshine by the end of the day.

Temperatures will continue to fall through the remainder of the day, reaching freezing before 6 p.m. in areas along and north of I-20.

COLDEST AIR OF THE SEASON: Tonight will easily be the coldest night of the year across North and Central Alabama. The coldest so far this season at Birmingham was 27F on November 23rd. Lows tonight will range from 18F at Hamilton to 20F at Birmingham to 24F at Auburn and Montgomery.

Tomorrow will be mostly sunny and cool, with highs topping out in the lower and middle 40s under a partly cloudy sky.
