Charles Daniel

Charles is originally from Marietta, Georgia. He graduated from the University of Alabama with a degree in Communications. Severe weather the day before graduation changed his life forever. That’s when Charles witnessed the December 16, 2000, tornado that ripped through Tuscaloosa,
killing 11 people.

Already working in the broadcast industry, Charles decided that day to further pursue his passion for weather. He enrolled at Mississippi State University and earned a Master of Science in Meteorology in 2003.

Charles’ first on air television job took him to WJHG in Panama City Beach, Florida. While along the Emerald Coast he learned a great deal about tropical Weather, forecasting and hurricane coverage. This proved to be valuable experience for his next job, WTOK-TV in Meridian, Mississippi. When Hurricane Ivan hit Charles’ team was on the air for 36 hours of wall-to-wall coverage.

Charles’ most recent experience was right here in the Magic City where he spent almost four years at another affiliate. His love for Birmingham and for the state of Alabama kept him here and he is happy to be back on the air with ABC 33/40.

Charles and his wife spend a lot of their free time working for several charity organizations. One event you may enjoy is Jennifer’s Ride: A Passport for a Cure. This annual motorcycle ride raises money to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Birmingham. This is an event he and his wife developed together. The ride is named after Charles’ sister who suffers from a rare form of the disease. Charles also sits on the Junior Board of Holy Family Cristo Rey High School. The board raises money to benefit the school which helps prepare underprivileged youth for college. Their annual event is the BBQ at the Zoo. Both events allow Charles to indulge in his hobbies, BBQ and
motorcycles.

For his charitble works, Charles was recognized by YP Birmingham as 2011′s Young Hot Professional.
