COLD/SNOW/ICE: A messy winter weather setup continues for much of Alabama today. A winter storm warning remains in effect for Marion, Winston, Franklin, Colbert, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Cullman, Morgan, Madison, Marshall, Jackson, and DeKalb counties in North Alabama. A winter weather advisory is now in effect west of a line from Mobile to Selma to Clanton to Sylacauga to Ranburne.
Wintry precipitation is already occurring over the Tennessee Valley at this hour and will be increasing. Additional advisories have been issued and all of the Tennessee Valley is now under a Winter Storm Warning starting at 6 p.m.
NWS Huntsville has extended the Winter Storm Warning to now include Cullman, DeKalb, Marshall, and Morgan counties from midnight tonight until 6am Tuesday.
2-5 inches of snow is expected across the Winter Storm Warning areas, with up to one inch of snow and one-tenth of ice accumulations in the Winter Weather Advisory areas.
NWS Birmingham extends the Winter Storm Warning to now include Blount, Cherokee, and Etowah counties in Central Alabama. These counties are in effect along with Marion and Winston counties starting at midnight tonight and is set to expire at 9 am Saturday morning.
NWS Huntsville has upgraded Cullman, DeKalb, and Marshall counties in North Alabama to a Winter Storm Warning from 9 pm tonight until 9 am Saturday morning. These counties have been added to Colbert, Franklin, Jackson, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, and Morgan counties already in the warning.
WILD WEATHER PATTERN: The weather across Alabama will be about as active as it gets over the next 24 hours; we will have a significant snow event for the northern counties after midnight tonight, while strong to severe thunderstorms are possible across the southern half of the state.
Snow over North Alabama is accumulating at the higher elevations of Madison and Marshall Counties. Travel will be an issue.
Lots to talk about this morning, especially a Sunday morning snowfall across parts of Alabama. Hazardous travel will result in areas where heavy snow falls.
NWS Huntsville has upgraded the Winter Storm Watch for DeKalb and Jackson counties to a Winter Storm Warning valid at 6 am Sunday through midnight Sunday night.
NWS Huntsville has decided to upgrade portions of their county warning area to a WINTER STORM WARNING starting at 6 pm and set to expire at 3 am Monday morning. Those upgraded counties are Jackson, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, and Morgan.
The Winter Storm Warning will now go into effect at 3:00 pm this afternoon, while a Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for a few of the eastern counties in North Alabama starting at 6:00 pm tonight.
HERE WE GO AGAIN: A winter storm warning is in effect late this afternoon and tonight for Lamar, Marion, Winston, Franklin, Lawrence, Colbert, Lauderdale, and Limestone counties in Northwest Alabama… a winter weather advisory is in effect for Pickens, Fayette, and Walker counties.
NWS Huntsville has issued a Wind Chill Advisory valid from 1:00 am Tuesday to 9:00 am Tuesday for the following counties in North Alabama: Colbert, Cullman, Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence, Limestone, Madison, and Morgan.
