Hot Summer Days; Isolated Afternoon Storms

| July 28, 2023 @ 5:32 am

HIGHS STAY IN THE 90s: Look for highs in the 95-99 degree range today and over the weekend as the upper ridge remains in place across the southern U.S. Each day we will see a few isolated, “pop up” thunderstorms around, mostly between 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. While most places won’t see a drop of rain, where the storms do form (they will be in random locations), they could be heavy with potential for strong winds and small hail.

NEW DAY, OLD FORECAST: An upper ridge is stretched out across the southern U.S… and will keep Alabama “toasty” through the weekend with highs in the 90s and lows in the 70s. You can never rule out a brief shower or storm on hot summer days here, but the chance of any one front yard getting wet today and tomorrow is only 10-20 percent. We do note a few showers over the northwest corner of Alabama early this morning.

HOT, MOSTLY DRY DAYS: A strong upper high will build into the Deep South over the next five to seven days, meaning our weather won’t change much. Partly to mostly sunny days, fair nights, and very few afternoon showers. The warm air aloft and sinking air motion associated with the ridge will squash most developing showers; odds of any one neighborhood seeing rain each day through the weekend is 10-20 percent.
