THIS AFTERNOON: The southern 2/3 of Alabama is enjoying a mostly sunny, mild day with temperatures in the 70s. A few showers linger over the northern counties this afternoon with a mostly cloudy sky; places like Huntsville are only in the 50s because of clouds and rain. Showers end this evening, and the sky will be mostly fair tonight with a low in the 50s.
ILLEGAL SHOWERS: We have showers over the northern third of Alabama early this morning, generally north of I-20. These are “illegal” because they weren’t in the forecast for today; the idea was that most of the rain this morning would be north of the Tennessee River, over far North Alabama and Tennessee. But the air moistened up sufficiently for some rain down into the northern third of the state.
WARMING TREND BEGINS: Temperatures are in the 57-65 degree range across much of Alabama this afternoon with a partly to mostly sunny sky; clouds are thicker across the Tennessee Valley, where a few sprinkles are showing up on radar. Rain will move across Tennessee this evening… staying generally north of Alabama. For a change, we stay above freezing tonight with lows mostly in the 40s.
ANOTHER COLD START: Temperatures are generally in the 25-35 degree range across Alabama early this morning, with sub-freezing readings for many areas. On the positive side, a warming trend begins this afternoon as temperatures rise into the low to mid 60s. Still below average, but moving in the right direction. The average high for Birmingham on March 21 is 69.
WARMING TREND BEGINS THIS AFTERNOON: Temperatures are below freezing over parts of East Alabama early this morning, but a warming trend begins later today as temperatures rise into the 60s; some South Alabama communities will see low 70s. The day will be dry, but clouds will gradually increase.
RADAR CHECK: We have a few scattered showers over the northern half of Alabama this morning; nothing especially heavy or widespread. We will mention the chance of showers over North/Central Alabama today and early tonight… then just a small risk of a shower tomorrow and Thursday as an upper ridge builds over the region.
THIS AFTERNOON: We have a mix of sun and clouds across Alabama this afternoon, temperatures are in the 60s over North Alabama, and close to 70 over the southern counties of the state. We continue to see a few sprinkles on radar, but most places are dry. Clouds increase tonight with a low in the 55-62 degree range.
WARMER THIS AFTERNOON: With a partly sunny sky, we project a high in the mid 60s over North Alabama today, with low 70s for the southern counties of the state. The average high for Birmingham on December 2 is 60. Clouds will increase tonight ahead of a cold front.
RADAR CHECK: The showers that were over North Alabama earlier today have moved out, and most of Alabama is dry this afternoon with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures are in the 60s, very close to seasonal averages for late November. Tonight will be mostly fair with a low in the 38-42 degree range.
RADAR CHECK: A band of showers is moving across North Alabama early this morning; this rain should be out of the state by mid-morning. Then, the sky becomes partly sunny this afternoon with a high in the 58-62 degree range. The average high for Birmingham on November 22 is 63.
NICE WARM-UP: Temperatures are in the 50s over the northern half of Alabama this afternoon after lows this morning in the 18-28 degree range. We are seeing low 60s across South Alabama with a good supply of sunshine. Clouds will increase across the state tonight, and most places will remain above freezing for the first time in five days… we project lows early tomorrow in the 32-40 degree range.
THIS AFTERNOON: Some mid to high level clouds have moved into the northern half of the state this afternoon, but there is no rain on radar, and our weather will stay dry tonight despite some rain to the west over West Tennessee and Northwest Mississippi. Low temperatures early tomorrow morning will be in the 55-62 degree range for most communities.
NICE WARM-UP TODAY: With sunshine in full supply, temperatures will rise into the mid 70s across Alabama today, right at seasonal averages for mid-April in Alabama. The warming trend will continue for the rest of the week and the weekend… look for a high around 80 tomorrow, followed by low to mid 80s Friday, and mid 80s Saturday and Sunday. An upper ridge will keep rain producing systems northwest of Alabama; expect mostly sunny days and fair nights.
RADAR CHECK: A weakening band of showers is pushing through the Tennessee Valley early this morning… the rest of the state is dry with temperatures mostly in the 60s. Look for a mix of sun and clouds today with a high in the 77-81 degree range; showers are possible, but they should be widely spaced, and much of the day will be dry.
