Alabama NewsCenter: Alabama Power Employees Raise Money to Help People in Need
Employees at Alabama Power raised more than $49,000 in November to support nonprofit agencies and community partners who are helping people in need this holiday season.
Scattered light snow showers have started to cause a few slick spots on roads in some higher elevations of Blount, St. Clair, Etowah, and Cherokee Counties.
Plenty of reports of sleet, snow, and graupel are coming in from across the northern parts of Central Alabama this afternoon, but the good news is that air temperatures are above freezing and the street-surface temperatures are well above freezing at this point.
COLD NOVEMBER DAY: As advertised, this has been a windy and cold late November day across Alabama; temperatures are settling into the 30s over the northern half of the state, and we have snow flurries, snow showers, and patches of light sleet continuing on radar. Temperatures will remain above freezing while the precipitation falls, and there won’t be any impact.
A deep upper trough is swinging across the state today, and it continues to produce clouds and areas of light rain, with even some snow flurries and snow showers at times this afternoon.
WINTER-LIKE DAY: Temperatures will go the wrong way across Alabama today following the system that brought soaking rains and wind to the state yesterday and last night. We are in the 40s at daybreak, but look for 30s by mid to late morning with an icy north wind. As a deep upper trough swings through, it will squeeze out snow flurries and showers in the cold air over the northern half of the state today and early tonight.
Gusty winds up to 35 MPH could blow around unsecured objects or decorations. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result.
