Birmingham’s Atomic Lounge is a bar, to be sure. There are drinks with fun names and fine booze with regulars destressing and unwinding. And if that was all Atomic Lounge is, that just might be enough.
COLD WINTER DAY: Temperatures just haven’t budged across Alabama today. They are generally between 35 and 43 degrees at mid-afternoon; the average high for Birmingham on January 8 is 53. Clouds persist over the state, but the precipitation has ended. We expect gradual clearing late tonight… the low early tomorrow will be in the mid to upper 20s.
Established in 1982, Project SHARE (Service to Help Alabamians with Relief on Energy) provides assistance to low-income elderly and disabled people needing help with their heating and cooling bills.
The cold core upper low continues to move over Alabama today, and it remains a cloudy and cold day for Alabama with areas of lingering light rain, with some snow flakes and ice pellets mixed in as well.

The precipitation will end later this morning, but clouds linger through the day with temperatures going nowhere. Most places hold in the 40s today; some communities across the Tennessee Valley of far North Alabama won’t get out of the 30s.
