RADAR CHECK: We have lingering patches of light rain over the eastern half of Alabama this afternoon; the snow has needed over the northern and western counties. Some of the heaviest snow this morning was over Pickens, Lamar, Fayette, Marion, and Winston counties, where a few spots saw two to three inches. The rain moves out of the state this evening, but clouds linger tonight.
Snow is beginning to wind down early this afternoon, but there are still some slushy roads across parts of Marion, Lamar, Fayette, northwestern Walker, Winston, Pickens, Colbert, and Franklin Counties.
I can’t say for sure where dishes like Tomatoes and Rice originated, but if I had to guess, I’d say out of necessity. And that was probably the need to feed lots of mouths for not a lot of money.
Snow continues this morning northwest of a line from Reform in Pickens County, to Fayette in Fayette County, to Carbon Hill in Walker County, to Falkville in Morgan County, with a few snow showers over Madison County around Huntsville. Southeast of there, it is all rain.
Radar at 8:00 am shows that not much has changed since the last update. Snow continues west of a line from Millport to Addison to Huntsville.
Radar at 6:53 am shows snow and a wintry mix falling in the northwestern parts of Central Alabama west of a line from Millport to Cullman to Hytop.
RADAR CHECK: This morning snow is falling across Alabama generally north of a line from Aliceville to Jasper to Cullman to Guntersville; south of that line it is mostly rain along with some sleet.
Radar at 3:58 am showed rain falling across much of Central Alabama at this point, but those heavier returns may have some sleet mix in with the rainfall. That rain changes into snow once you get back west of a line from roughly Cullman to Carbon Hill to just south of Millport.
An eight-day donation drive to benefit nursing homes in the community will kick off this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Week activities at Auburn University.
A mix of precipitation has moved into West and Northwest Alabama tonight. Winter weather advisories continue until noon for Fayette, Lamar, Marion, Pickens, Tuscaloosa, Walker, and Winston Counties where accumulations of around one-half inch are expected, with one inch possible near the Mississippi border.
